For a time I thought my heart would burst of the joy and the solitude and the beauty, and then there were moments, pure minutes, when the cold rain and mocking wind brought nightmares and puddles into my tent. All the verities of life attended on a broader, greener canvas and my soul is refreshed. The first two nights it was in the 30's, the daytime temperature was in the mid 70's. I woke confused and cold the first morning, scrambling for sticks to start a fire. I made sure to use the hood on my sleeping bag the next night and to set aside a pile of kindling for a quick morning inferno. We learn as we go...
The landscape consists of maple, oak and northern white pine, mixed with a few poplars, mostly the white pine like this giant. This shot is zoomed in at about 50' high and the trunk is still as big around as a man.
