Yesterday, a striped pastel American sunset of gray/blue and orange/maroon lifted my spirit to a place where conscious thought left the radar. Yes, daydreaming. Or duskdreaming-whatever. Problem is, I was driving at the time. Passed my exit and figured I'd drive to the old house (which I've vacated, pending sale) a few exits down the speedway. It was like visiting an old friend, happy to see and sad to go. Grabbed lots of mail, butter (from the fridge) and a handsaw. Driving away, I thought, "this was a good place to live" and took back all the bad things I ever said about it. Back at Jane's (maybe or maybe not her real name) I unloaded the unlikely parcel piece by piece with "guess what else I got" for her amusement. She was mildly amused. Or at least appeared so for my benefit. The saw was for the tree. Cut it to pieces while it smelled like sweet comfort oil of the Gods. Bagged it (3 bags) and put it and the trunk on the front steps. It was 8:00 by then and time to eat. Pierogies with saute'd onions and corned beef. Oh, I pulled some frozen soup out of the freezer at the old house, almost forgot. Chicken vegetable, mmmmm, made from scratch. So dinner was glorious, Jane (maybe or maybe not her real name) did the dishes while I worked on entertainment. To bed early and great ***. So the daydream caused by the pastel striped American sunset was the gateway of this man's American dream for the day.
And today is going to be even better.
