A note on Elliott Smith:
My ex had just moved 700 miles away and was gone for about 5 months when we decided to reconcile. I visited a couple of times and on one occasion she played a couple of Elliott tunes for me, noting how they mirrored our situation/feelings & observations with beautiful depth and sweet sadness. I don't recall being too particularly impressed at the first listening. I learned 'between the bars' (one of the easiest smith tunes to master) and listened, on my return home to the balance of 'either/or'. I was hooked. The relationship didn't work out and Elliott's songs produced the bitter-sweet tears to cry in my proverbial beer. The more I listened to the records, the more I heard. I regard Elliott Smith as my favorite artist. His songwriting and 'from the heart' performance as well as accomplished guitar work continue to impress me. Rarely does an artist come around who makes me feel like I wish I had 'written that song'.
There are a bunch of fine Elliott Smith sites out there, but the most frequently updated one I have found is www.sweetadeline.net. It has a great tab section, too, arranged neatly by album, with 2 or 3 different versions of some songs.
