Monday

Rear window down

Thick this morning, my head feels thick, maybe a late-summer cold coming on or just Monday. So I had the windows down to get some fresh air until I hit the highway and then rolled up the front one because it was chilly.
(take a moment to mourn the passing of summer) sigh...
Just over the I-480 bridge about 100 feet in front of me, what looks like clumps of clay and dirt are falling from the overpass, a car in the fast lane swerves and misses them, then the SUV directly beside me hits them, I realize at this point it's not clay and dirt but concrete and rocks, and POP...hssssssssssssssssss, so the SUV pulls off the road with at least one flat. One moment earlier or later and one lane over and who knows what could have happened.

I know that timing is not everything, sometimes location will be the determining factor. The crumbling efforts of our (no matter how enlightened) society still mean nothing, except to turn like a boomerang and destroy us, or to hasten our salvation.
